Our extensive vegetable garden and orchard are where we teach the science and necessity of sustainable living. The children care for a worm farm which provides us with essential fertiliser. We raise vegetable seedlings which then are planted into the garden. The children tend the garden, weeding, fertilising and watering, and eventually harvest their produce to bring to the kitchen, and there they help to create their meals. Our orchard is constantly being developed and contains a variety of citrus, feijoa trees, apples, grapes and plums. Our free range eggs are gathered by the children and used in the baking. Growing, harvesting and eating their own fresh organic produce provides the children with a link to the land and develops an understanding of their natural world. Our menu changes seasonally to ensure the children are getting what they most enjoy, in line with the seasonal growing cycles of our fruit and vegetables.
